A captive-bred baby white abalone (Haliotis sorenseni) crawling along a blade of giant kelp.
This image is part of "Into the Wild: Restoring the Endangered White Abalone", an exhibit of photographs highlighting the restoration efforts underway for the white abalone in Southern California. White abalone are one of seven species of abalone native to the waters of the Pacific off California's coast, and the first marine invertebrate to be listed as endangered. A captive breeding and outplanting program has been established to support the recovery of white abalone populations in the wild - and this young white abalone is part of that effort.
